Horlicks was invented by two Englishmen, James Horlicks and his brother William. James Horlicks studied dietetics in the United States, and specialized in studying infants with problems in digesting whole milk. Horlicks' studies led him and his brother to develop a combination of liquid extracts of wheat and barley as a milk modifier.
