The Bairns
2008 US pressing of their album originally released in the UK in 2007. This is the sophomore release from the Folk/Rock outfit. It follows the incredible success of The Cruel Sister, which was Mojo Magazine's "Folk Album of the Year" in 2005 and announced the arrival of a major new force in the Folk scene. Like so many other Folk artists, the group have moved way beyond the traditional boundaries of the Folk circuit, drawing their audiences from across the spectrum of music lovers. Like Seth Lakeman, they tour constantly and create traditional (and traditionally inspired) music that appeals to both the died-in-the-wool (arran, of course!) Folk fans and to a much younger fanbase. In this light, their covers of songs by Bonnie Prince Billy and Robert Wyatt don't seem out of place in the least. Rachel and her band play Folk that is both traditional and traditionally-inspired, appealing to Folk and singer/songwriter fans across the board. 15 tracks. Real World.
