The Dragon's Hoard Study Guide
Most of the exciting portions of The Dragon's Hoard, the first book of the series, take place in a world similar to that created by J.R.R. Tolkien in his wonderful story, The Hobbit. Kennan and Beth take shelter from the rain in their family's barn. But as they look around, they notice a small door they had never seen there before. When they open the door, they find a long, shadowy hall lined with large doors, each with a different color or design. On the floor they find a crinkled paper with this mysterious poem, "Each twenty years the circle spins, each time the children try to win, choose ye right and travel now, the treasure's to be found again." Working up their courage, Kennan and Beth open a golden door with a red dragon flying over a mountain painted on it, and step through to a great adventure.
BEach book in The Hall of Doors series presents the characters with a new character trait that they must master. The four children find themselves challenged to grow and develop in service to "The King they already know."
