When you hear the words "brass ensemble", you might normally either imagine a 5 piece group playing quintets by Arnold and Hindemith - or alternatively it conjures up an enormous brass band playing famous marches or show tunes. tenThing offer something rather more distinctive. They are a 10-piece all-female ensemble. They play Grieg, Piazzolla and Mozart favorites, cleverly arranged (by Jarle Storlokken), as well as original compositions for Brass Dectet by the likes of Dutch composer, Jan Koetsier. tenThing, lead by Tine Thing Helseth, was founded in the Spring of 2007 and is already highly regarded, both on a national and international level. The idea of forming a girls-only ten-piece brass ensemble was born from the fact that a very large share of the young, up-and-coming brass players in Norway at present are female. tenThing enjoys a busy tour schedule with live performances which embody the ensemble's sense of humor and genuine shared musical pleasure. Audiences invariably cannot help but become infected with the players' enthusiasm. As the group says on its own website, "tenThing desires, through a varied repertoire, to provide for great experiences of live music that the listeners will not easily forget.
