The 1998 White House Christmas Ornament commemorates James Buchanan with a depiction of the eagle and shield insignia that first appeared on the glassware President Andrew Jackson purchased for the White House in 1829. President Buchanan was the last president to use the the Jackson pattern. A wreath of white magnolia blossoms and red camellias surround the white porcelain eagle.
