35 Anniversario
Grupo Niche was founded in 1980,
the creation of Jairo Varela Martinez.
Years before, he dreamed of putting
together a band and in 1979 did his
first recording, not having a band
formed. In 1980 he put together an
orchestra and began playing at several
venues in Bogota. At the beginning their music was limited
to very close circles.
Having their first hit song Buenaventura and Caney , soon after
they did their first tour to the United States. Jairo Varela
understood in that first touring experiences that the group
was bringing a new sound and began to have more confidence
that they were destined to great things. With that in mind
in 1984 he decided to compose a song to the city that had
hosted him and "Cali Pachanguero was born, which became
the song that launched him to worldwide success and fame
of which the fans still request and enjoy today. Once this
was acomplished Jairo Varela, and Grupo Niche had the
challenge of upholding their successes and despite some
constant chalenges they were able to overcome always in
a very positive way thus giving the group a positive thrust
and a continuous musical progress. Jairo Varela and Grupo
Niche launch defining works as Tapando el Hueco (Plugging
the gap) or Cielo de Tambores (Heaven of Drums) containing
songs that are now considered classics araound the world.
After those defining moments, Grupo Niche has continued
to record songs of a definitive quality that have kept them
on the top of their genre of music and the musical charts
around the world. Songs the likes of Gotas de Luvia (Rain
Drops), Un alto en el camino (A stop along the way),
La Magia de tus besos (The Magic of your kisses) and
Un dÃa después (A day after) among many others.
The death of musical genius Jairo Varela in 2012 did not
determine the end of Grupo Niche because its founder
always hoped that the orchestra would continue under the
style he created and introduced in tropical music called
Salsa . This is how his posthumous production, Tocando
el Cielo con Las manos (Touching the sky with your hands)
was completed in 2013 and was launched with great
success in the international market. In 2015, Grupo Niche
launches there new musical proposal that has been done
with the same standards and excellence that have always
characterized its founder and creater Jairo Varela.
