Dr. Johnson has given us a resource that carefully traces, in detail, the purpose of God as revealed in His Word through the various economies that God has established. This work shows the hand of God as it moves through history, giving the reader a clear understanding of the plan and will of God as it is progressively revealed through the inerrant, inspired text of Scripture. This Biblical theology allows both the student and communicator of Scripture to follow logically and progressively the unfolding of God's dealing with mankind so that history makes sense. It clearly shows the Bible not to be a book of random, disconnected events that are only vaguely related to one another. Rather, it shows the God of history at work in history to accomplish His goal of bringing glory to Himself through the advancement of His kingdom. A Dispensational Biblical Theology allows the expositor of Scripture to stay tethered to the text of Scripture in its historical context while simultaneously freeing the expositor to bring the Biblical text and its context into the contemporary experience of the audience. This is crucial, since at the heart of a Dispensational Biblical theology is God's partnership with man in both the unfolding and communicating of His divine revelation. This is a resource whose time has come. It will be an essential tool in the arsenal of those who take seriously the inerrant Word, and who wish to understand it and communicate it effectively, whether in a classroom or in a sanctuary. I am extremely grateful for the excellent exegetical work and sweat that was obviously put into producing this work. It will certainly serve as the foundation for increasing the theological depth of the pulpit, leading to greater theological depth in the pew.
