Africa Worldwide: 35th Anniversary Album
From Zaire, Tabu Ley Rochereau is the creator of the highly-danceable soukous style. Influenced by Cuban rhythms and rhumba music (which, of course, originated in Africa), Tabu Ley began recording in Africa in the late '50s. Over the next two decades, he rose in popularity to become one of the most revered musicians in the French-speaking world, and his influence as a trendsetter continues to this day. This 35th Anniversary Album is a newly-recorded "greatest hits" collection: a retrospective of many of Tabu Ley's most beloved songs played by his fiery Orchestre Afrisa International. Tabu Ley has assembled many of Zaire's brightest musical lights for the latest edition of his band, including singers Djeffard Lukombo Mayemba, Wawali Bonane Bungu, and Munoko Dodo Gisalu, and the remarkable lead guitarist Huit-Kilos. Produced by Scott Billington.
