In a career that has spanned six decades, Ahmad Jamal is seen as innovative and influential by critics, even if he has been largely ignored by the record buying public. There have been many standout albums recorded during the period, with this particular album showing the unusual sound the trio (Jamal on piano, bassist Israel Crosby and drummer Vernell Fournier) were capable of achieving. Indeed, the versions of Cheek To Cheek, Taboo and Secret Love in particular as probably as far removed from the sound originally envisaged by the respective composers.
