All Night Long
Joseph Fidler 'Joe' Walsh was a multi-instrumentalist - playing Piano, Clarinet, Trombone, Oboe and later, guitar. Joe's nascent talent had been recognised and he was asked to join the promising five-piece James Gang. The group soon shed two members and was became a hard-rocking three-piece consisting of Joe Walsh (Guitar, vocals), Tom Kriss (Bass, Vocals) and Jim Fox (Drums, Vocals). They were signed by ABC Dunhill and began to record their debut album later that year. The band's second album, 'James Gang Rides Again' was their first gold disc and peaked at number 20 on the Billboard charts. Joe has continued to include the most popular James Gang numbers in concert - this set includes The Bomber (from '...Rides Again') and Funk #49 ('Yer Album'). After leaving the group, Joe formed his own new power-trio, Barnstorm, with Joe Passareli (Bass)and Joe Vitale (Drums). The band's second album 'The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get' was a major success and commercial breakthrough. Live versions of album cuts Meadows and Dreams are both featured here. The following year, Joe chose to disband Barnstorm and released 'So What' his first album under his own name. However, his solo career was soon put on hold when he accepted an offer to join The Eagles, as Bernie Leadon's replacement, in 1975. He instantly became a fully-fledged member and featured heavily on the astonishingly successful 'Hotel California', co-writing the 1977 hit Life in The Fast Lane and Pretty Maids All In A Row. The album reached the number 1 spot and became the band's best-selling studio record ever, with sales in excess of 32 million copies worldwide. Drawn from his 1978 album 'But Seriously, Folks...' the self-penned Life's Been Good also appeared on the soundtrack to 'The Warriors' (1979). 'There Goes The Neighborhood' (released in 1981) was the last Joe Walsh album issued prior to this broadcast recording - and two tracks are featured here, A Life of Illusion and You Never Know.
