The tag New Yorkers was widely used among jazz bands and dance orchestras regardless of the actual background of the musicians. 'New York' stood for cosmopolitan musicians. Several groups visiting Europe traveled under this name, including Alex Hyde, Frank Guarente and George Carhart. The 'New Yorkers' would travel to Europe under Carhart's aegis and then fend for themselves when Carhart's deals fell through. The tunes on this CD come from several recording sessions and include a here-to-fore unknown vocalist, Al Bowlly, made for the Homocord company. Other tunes originate at the Tri-Ergon movie company where fourteen titles were recorded. Also included are eight Frank Guarente Kalophon discs re-issued in their entirety here.
