Miriam is sure that it is God's will for her and Ben Shmeat to marry. They've been courting for quite a while now. Ben is handsome and outgoing, and her future with him looks bright. However, as she and Ben spend more time together, Miriam feels a hesitation. Something about Ben is beginning to trouble Miriam greatly.

Miriam takes a job at a bakery in nearby Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She meets Ezra Schiedam, a customer. Ezra is completely taken with Maria. What eventually transpires, begins to confuse Miriam and she must seek God's will for her life, now more than ever.
