School's out! Arthur and his pal Buster are looking forward to plenty of thrills at Camp Meadowcroak this summer. Unfortunately, Arthur's parents have something different in mind: a family vacation. No amount of pleading can change their mind. They head for the beach and encounter the usual assortment of vacation pitfalls, including bad traffic, multiple potty stops, a subpar motel room, and, worst of all, rain. Luckily, Arthur and his little sister D.W. make a conscious effort to bolster everyone's attitude. They suggest plenty of ways to enjoy family time away from home, making the whole clan feel much better. Over the years, Grandpa has let the place slip, stubbornly refusing assistance from neighbors.
