Battle for Earth
Mankind’s first encounter with an alien species was a complete disaster. The Sargoth weren’t interested in humans. They simply needed a base for operational support and they had selected Earth. That meant the current residents of the planet had to go.
The Sargoth have been space travelers for generations. They have conquered many worlds, and for centuries have been engaged in a deadly war against their long-standing enemy, the Walteen. The primitive weapons that Earth’s inhabitants could deploy against the considerably advanced technology possessed by the invaders were pitiful. The Sargoth possess weapons and protective energy fields unlike anything humans have ever encountered. Technology wins, and the Sargoth simply swept aside all attempts on the part of the defending Earthlings to protect their cities and people. Within a week all major metropolitan areas were in ruins. The combined militaries of the world simply no longer existed. Most of the world’s former population has been annihilated.
What remains after the deadly attacks are scattered and terrified refugees, who fight among one another for what food and shelter remains. Knowing there is no longer any government to help them, most survivors realize it is only a matter of time before the invaders complete the elimination of the remaining human population and solidify their claim on the planet.
For the time being, however, the Sargoth have elected to ignore those who have survived. They represent no meaningful threat, and until they have established their facilities and starship repair bases, chasing down the frightened and impotent survivors isn’t high on the invader’s list of priorities. Some groups of survivors band together in hopes their numbers will offer some security against the growing gangs that wander the ruins. One of these groups discovers a secret that might offer the world the slimmest of hopes. They encounter one of the Walteen, an ally who has technology of a level equal to that of the Sargoth, and who might be able to communicate with the very group the Sargoth are fighting for control of this region of the Galaxy.
Working with the unexpected ally, they develop a plan to thwart the Sargoth in their takeover of the Earth. The risks are great and there is no assurance of success, nor that the Walteen warships will come to Earth’s aid even if they learn of the invasion. There is, however, little to lose by the attempt.
