Symphony No 3
- The Conductor: Willhelm Furtwangler
- The Orchestra: Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra
- The Composer: Beethoven
This Eroica, from the 1952-1953 season, was recorded from concerts and originally released on Tahra in analog sound in 2003. The recording was made during a period when Wilhelm Furtwangler was in Vienna specifically to record a series of Beethoven symphonies for EMI with the Vienna Philarmonic in the Muiskvereinssaal. During this recording session, Furtw¤ngler gave two concerts on 29 and 30 November, the second one's being recorded by ORF in excellent sound condition. The full program included Beethoven's first, Malher's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with Alfred Poell and the third symphony. This new disc reissues the Eroica, carefully remastered for SACD from the original analog tapes.
