Walnut Farm Design's Beginner's Drop Spindle Kit includes everything you need to learn to use a drop spindle! It is easy, fast, fun and best of all.....the best low cost way to spin your own yarn! The kit includes: an 11" unfinished wood drop spindle w/ leader string attached, 2 oz of handpainted fiber perfect for spinning, and an easy to follow instruction sheet! The directions also include links to youtube videos for the 'park and draft' method of drop spindling, how to navajo ply on a drop spindle, and how to finish your yarn! I include these links because I am a visual learner! Learning to drop spindle before moving on to using a spinning wheel is a must! I am an impatient person and did not want to learn how to use a spindle before I hopped right on a spinning wheel, but it is an invaluable first step to learn how to draft, and learn how the yarn twists. It was much more fun, easier, and quicker than I had imagined. It's easy to do it while watching tv, and easy to take it with you when traveling! -spindle is unfinished wood and can be stained or painted to make it your own! -whorl is 2 1/2" in diameter -shaft is 11" long and finished with a brass plated hook -100% fine hand-dyed Polwarth wool I chose fine Polwarth combed top to include in my beginner spindle kits because Polwarth is a fine, soft wool with a longer staple length than merino wool. A longer staple length fiber is easier to learn on and Polwarth makes a nice, strong singles yarn if you choose not to ply it. Comes from a pet-free, smoke free home and made with care to spread the joy and love of spinning your own fiber!
