It’s post-time for mystery buffs, racing enthusiasts and horse-lovers: Emma Lewis is one of four veterinarians working for an equine clinic in the Saratoga, New York region. Recently divorced and relocated, she struggles to create an identity for herself both professionally and personally, amidst the daily workings of a busy veterinary clinic in the heart of racing country, from late night emergency calls to surgeries. The scenery is as vivid as the action, as Saratoga slips from the burning summer of racing season into the glowing hues of fall.
But that is where the Rockwell painting ends; suddenly, a series of tragic events occur, disrupting the bucolic community like an earthquake. It all begins with the fatality of a champion horse from Thornwood Farm, the top racing stable in the area. When more deaths – both human and equine – occur, the tag of “accident†becomes harder to believe.
Everyone seems to have a motive. It’s up to Emma to sort fact from fiction. As she pieces the puzzle together, Emma must race to save her own life and horses from the same deadly fate. For the tragic events are much more than a series of coincidences; they are deadly symptoms of a disturbing disease that plagues the community and people Emma has grown to love. And now fear.
