Bmw 6-Series (High Performance Series)
Used Book in Good Condition
Bayerische Motoren Werke, the more familiar BMW of that white and blue symbol, so highly regarded amongst prestige car makers, made over 421,000 cars in 1983. Well under 10,000 were of their most exclusive coupe design, the elegant 6-Series. Introduced as a more comfortable and civilized successor to the 1968-75 BMW coupes, epitomized by the 70's European Championship winning CSL racing models, the later 6-Series grew into a diversity of sporting two-doors, each with a distinctive character. Author and co-translator of three previous BMW books, Jeremy Walton examines the 6-Series in considerable detail. He highlights the variations on a coupe theme that BMW have provided since the model went on sale in 1976, including the fuel injected 633 CSi Federal versions sold in the USA. From the 2.8 liter/130mph 628 CSi to the latest 155mph Munich missile, the M635 CSi with its fabulous 24-valve motor, the author guides us through a range that retains vigor and quality as a common theme. Motor sports are not neglected. The story of the 635's racing career, particularly in competition with Jaguar for premier honors in Europe, is faithfully detailed. Included is a dramatic account of the last 1983 European Championship round that secured the title of European Champion for Austrian Dieter Quester. Jeremy Walton has been fortunate enough to drive most of the 6-Series from 1976 to today's Group A racers, and the exotic 286 horsepower M635. He has used such opportunities to provide readers with a first hand account of these legendary Bavarian motor cars.
