Confusion surrounding the Opus numbers of this set of works has led to the obscurity and under-recording of these compositions. This CD allows listeners to familiarize themselves with Boccherinis original scoring, as opposed to the previous recording containing arrangements for keyboard and piano quartet. This selection of work is full of surprises, including the composers use of Spanish folk music. Boccherinis diverse palette ranges from sweet melodies to abrupt conclusions, which seamlessly flow into one another. Italian group Ensemble Symposium focuses on historically informed performance practice. They have already completed two well-received recordings for Brilliant Classics.
