Book 5 Tubular Bell Clocks: Clockmakers Newsletter Workshop Series
Book 5 Tubular Bell Clocks: Clockmakers Newsletter Workshop Series. In this companion volume to Book 4 Grandfather Clocks, the reader is shown the repair techniques unique to tubular bell clocks. In this ambitious series, planned for 10 books, Steven G. Conover edits the 256 issues of his Clockmakers Newsletter into workshop manuals, reorganized by subject. The first chapter of Book 5 provides set-up procedures, tube hanging arrangements, and work methods for the repair shop and the customer s home. Chapter 2 covers German and English tubular bell clocks by makers such as Winterhalder & Hoffmeier and Elliott. European manufacturers made many of the tubular bell clocks produced from about 1880 until the Great Depression in the next century. Chapter 3 is devoted to the American-made Herschede tubular bell clock movements manufactured until 1984. Steven G. Conover completed the first edition of How to Repair Herschede Tubular Bell Clocks in 1986. As a result of strong reader interest, new articles and discussions about specific Herschede repairs began appearing in Clockmakers Newsletter. These features are included in Book 5 Tubular Bell Clocks. The author uses his format for technical manuals here. The 8-1/2 x 11 inch pages are plastic comb bound to lie flat on the workbench, and the card stock covers are protected by clear acetate. The 125-page book is fully indexed and illustrated with 209 photos and drawings.
