Bookmarks is certainly a more modern record from a production and melodic standpoint than anything I've done recently. Lyrically there are a few more relationship songs than a typical FFF album. You can chalk that up to mid-life insecurity and/or mid life maturity (interchangeable states). The most vocally diverse record since The Battle for Everything, Bookmarks allowed me to let loose a bit, stretching from "Road to You" and "She's my Girl" to "I Don't Want Your Love" and "The Day I Died."

Every album is a grueling and frustrating writing process littered with discarded lyrics and broken melodies. This one was certainly no different.

That being said, I had more fun making this record than any since America Town where two guys (Gregg Wattenberg and I) lived in a studio for a year trying to figure out what the hell we were doing. It's no coincidence that my newfound joy for record making coincides with the first full album Gregg and I have made together since we were tinkering with "Superman" and "100 Years." I'm grateful that I'm in a point in my life where it s about doing the best work I can with people I call friends.

I hope listeners enjoy Bookmarks as much as I enjoyed making it...
