British India Steam Navigation Co. Liners of the 1950's and 1960's
In the 1950s British India saw its trade disappear as the army began to move its troops by air rather than sea. No longer were the vessels to be used on the trooping voyages to India, Hong Kong and Singapore and other uses had to be found for them For some, like the Dunera, it was schools cruising and for others like Uganda, it was use as a cruise ship. The last of the line went to the breakers in the early 1980s after a successful voyage to the Falklands as a hospital ship.
