These are the opening chapters of "Foremost: The Fourth Mississippi Infantry in the Civil War" Mississippi Infantry, composed of farmers and settlers, marched off to fight the Civil War in the summer of 1861. They, the 26th Alabama and the 15th Arkansas, formed Drake's Brigade, fighting at Forts Henry and Donelson. Drake's men led the Confederacy to great success in the field but found themselves betrayed at the end of the final day's fighting by Confederate high command.
