Sue Montgomery is a registered nurse and professional medical writer with over 28 years of nursing experience. She worked for fourteen years as a Certified Hospice Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN) at one of the nation's largest hospices, The Hospice of the Florida Suncoast (now the Suncoast Hospice).
She started as a staff nurse with both pediatric and adult patients, in their homes and in one of the hospice houses. An established leader in the field, Sue eventually served as senior staff nurse, team manager, and finally, Director of Interdisciplinary Practice, working with all disciplines across an agency of 13 care teams and additional departments which served thousands of patients and families.
Sue has provided education training for staff on the local and national level and has been published in the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s national magazine, Insights. Sue passed the CHPN exam three times with high scores.
Our Practice Exam follows the same subject areas as the actual CHPN exam consists of 150 multiple choice questions over seven domains of practice for the care of adult patients and families:
Patient Care: Life-Limiting Conditions in Adult Patients
Patient Care: Pain Management
Patient Care: Symptom Management
Care of Patient and Family
Education and Advocacy
Interdisciplinary/Collaborative Practice
Professional Issues
Only 135 questions are scored. Fifteen of the questions are trial items being considered for future exams. Three hours are given to complete the exam.
