This Chicago-Latrobe 165 series jobber length drill blank set contains 20 high-speed steel drill blanks, including one each of wire gauge sizes #80 through #61, with an uncoated (bright) finish for precision drilling and measuring applications on a range of materials, especially soft metals. High-speed steel (HSS) provides hardness for wear resistance, and the uncoated finish provides an untreated surface. These drill blanks have been hardened and ground to a diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005".
The set comes in a gray epoxy-coated steel index case with labeled compartments for identification and organization. Case measures 5 x 5 x 5/16 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.)
Drill blanks are smooth cylindrical pieces of material that have been manufactured to specific diameters and lengths. Their simple design promotes use in myriad applications, such as a punch for making holes in a range of materials or as a diameter gage for measuring an existing hole. Drill blanks can also be used as stock when creating cutting tools and as knockout pins or rollers in dies.
Chicago-Latrobe manufactures drill bits and accessories, reamers, countersinks, and blanks. The company, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Clemson, SC, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard 9001.
