- OUR PLATES ARE PRE-POURED. DON'T WASTE TIME POURING AGAR. The plates are pre-poured, CBA (Chocolate Blood Agar). CBA is Tryptic Soy Agar with 5% defibrinated Sheep Blood that has been lysed. Used for growing fastidious respiratory organisms, such as Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis.
- THESE CHOCOLATE BLOOD AGAR PLATES HAVE A SHELF LIFE OF LONGER THAN FOUR MONTHS WHEN KEPT REFRIGERATED AND ARE MANUFACTURED IN THE USA. Our plates won’t crack or dry out. They have a thick layer of agar which promotes good growth, have been professionally packaged and vacuum sealed in a level 5 cleanroom for a longer shelf life.
- THIS PACKAGING PROCESS IS PATENT PROTECTED. We use a method of vacuum-packing our petri plates in an inert gas environment that enables long term storage of many types of petri plates without deterioration of the nutrient agar contained in the filled plates. Standard storage times and conditions for traditional, sleeve-packed petri plates are normally three months in a refrigerated environment.
- PLATE DIMENSIONS. The plates are 100mm in diameter x 15mm deep. The agar in the plates has a depth on average of 6-7mm.
- DESCRIPTION: 5% Defibrinated Sheep Blood, 1.5% Tryptone, 0.5% Soytone, 0.5% NaCl, 1.5% Agar.
Our Chocolate Blood Agar (CBA) plates are Tryptic Soy Agar with 5% defibrinated Sheep Blood that has been lysed by slowly heating. The composition of our Chocolate agar and our Blood Agar is same and the only difference is while preparing Chocolate agar, the red blood cells are lysed. Chocolate agar is used for growing fastidious respiratory bacteria, such as Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis. In addition, some of these bacteria, most notably H. influenzae, need growth factors such as NAD (factor V) and hemin (factor X), which are inside red blood cells; thus, a prerequisite to growth for these bacteria is lysis of the red blood cells. The heat also inactivates enzymes which could otherwise degrade NAD. The agar is named for the color and contains no actual chocolate.
