Chopin: Nocturne - Cello Sonata Transcriptions
With this new programme of Chopin's works for cello and piano Truls Mork returns, on disc, to chamber music, a genre he is acknowledged for world-wide. Although Chopin mainly composed for the piano, the other instrument he showed real interest in was the cello. To quote Grove: "Chopin sometimes gave the cello the same type of dark, rich melody that he used for left-hand melodies on the piano." The programme couples two works originally composed for cello and piano: the late cello sonata with the Introduction and Polonaise brillante. Other works are transcriptions, for both cello and piano of short piano pieces (Preludes, Nocturnes and Etudes), arranged either by Truls Mork and Kathy Stott. The album also features an arrangement by the composer Glazunov.
