Q - What makes Combat and Other Shenanigans special?
A - There are a ton of great war memoirs out there today, and many cover the Global War on Terror / Wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. I donâ€™t want to detract from any of those works, as they all tell an important aspect of the experience of being deployed. But my experience was a lot less action-packed and heroic, and a lot more about doing our best to get the job done, and keep ourselves from going stir-crazy in the process. We pulled some crazy stunts downrange when no one was looking. But the book is also a testament to the camaraderie and everyday heroism of the soldiers I fought with. I hope it's a realistic look at what the experience of war was like for the average combat soldier in Iraq.
