This book, written by practicing construction safety experts, focuses on proven construction safety principles, methodologies, and best practices. The book is divided into five areas. The first section outlines what safety professionals must and should do before work commences at a job site. The second section looks at construction safety as a process, including prejob and pretask planning. The third section reviews multi-employer work-site issues, subcontractor liability and federal and state construction regulations. The fourth section provide guidance and instruction on specific job hazards such as steel erection, scaffolds, ladders, fall protection, and management of environmental impacts, among others. The chapters in the fifth section address important topics not covered collectively in other construction reference books: ergonomics, construction safety in healthcare facilities, MSHA considerations for contractors, and managing and communicating in a crisis, and other important topics.
