Creative Horsemanship
- Used Book in Good Condition
Unlike other dressage books, Creative Horsemanship does not teach a program but rather assumes a general knowledge and a degree of riding experience that can be enhanced by training suggestions from one of the foremost dressage teachers. This book is a response to the need to know more about the philosophy of classical riding and the reasons for the particular gymnastic movements involved.
Charles de Kunffy concentrates on the gymnastic development of a horse since this is basic to all equestrian achievements. He discusses what is meant by relaxation, obedience, suppleness, elasticity, and rhythm. And he addresses such topics as how to "dressage" a horse, communication between horse and rider, the purpose served by various aids, viewing and judging dressage, and competition. Mr. de Kunffy's selection of photographs of top American and European competitors reinforces his commentary.
Creative Horsemanship affirms that the horse and rider must develop together if the equestrian tradition, which represents an elegant sport and an art form of exquisite beauty, is to be maintained.
