Daruma has been a symbol of good luck for many years in Japan. He was a renown Indian priest who lived about 1500 years ago. He went to China and founded the Zen sect of Buddhism. He spent years in meditation, facing a wall. This doll represents patience and perseverance. Daruma is traditionally purchased when someone start a new business, takes exams, or at the beginning of the new year for good luck. One eye is painted in when a wish is made. The other eye is painted when the wish is fulfilled. The daruma dolls are hand made and hand painted, each one is unique and may differ slightly from photos.
