Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid, the principal natural form of Vitamin C) is one of a few topical agents, that has been scientifically proven to improve skin complexion. Ascorbic Acid is considered a gold standard, although other forms (rather derivatives) of Vitamin C, such as Ascorbyl Palmitate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, etc. are available and have been shown to possess some of the qualities of Ascorbic Acid. In order to achieve a desired effect, the concentration of Vitamin C solution has to be between 10 and 20%. Vitamin C improves skin complexion by a number of mechanisms.
