Priming/Strainer Baskets â€“ We highly recommend the use of our EZ basket in ALL applications where there is space available. Your pump will run quieter and perform better. A strainer protects the pump impeller from damaging and clogging debris, prevents noise from water cavitation in wet ends and improves pump performance. These features are achieved by maintaining a flooded water supply level above the pump wet end, which is a necessity in all centrifugal pumps for maximizing performance and silence. The only installation where a primer/strainer is NOT necessary is when the pump is drawing strained water directly from a sump that is holding a water level well above the height of the pump. Dolphin priming baskets are designed to fit directly onto all 1.5 and 2 inch pumps. The design is meant to utilize space efficiently by having the pump intake turn directly into the basket. The strainer basket is very fine for catching small snails, gravel and other debris. When the basket is being used to draw water, a check flap valve must be installed before the basket, close to the water source.
