The obverse of each coin pays homage to our nationÃ¢â‚¬TMs past, featuring a rattlesnake preparing to strike from a coiled position in the grass. The hissing snake is based off of FranklinÃ¢â‚¬TMs design and is surrounded by the inscriptions Ã¢â‚¬Å“DONÃ¢â‚¬TMT TREAD ON ME" and "ESTABLISHED IN 1754.Ã¢â‚¬ The original sketch unified American colonies and was illustrated on the Gadsden flag. The reverse showcases a spectacular bald eagle standing proudly above a banner reading Ã¢â‚¬Å“Eternal Vigilance,Ã¢â‚¬ which is a snippet from a quote often attributed to Jefferson in the early to mid-1800s. A variation of the quote reads, Ã¢â‚¬Å“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty,Ã¢â‚¬ meaning the nationÃ¢â‚¬TMs fragile freedom should be properly cared for. Inscriptions read Ã¢â‚¬Å“THE PRICE OF LIBERTYÃ¢â‚¬ above the eagle with the coinÃ¢â‚¬TMs weight and fineness below.
