â€œOkay,â€ Jaylon said and paused a beat. â€œUmm, you have to look at me, remember?â€

â€œOh, y-yeah.â€ Camille stumbled over the words as she forced her gaze back to his.

Looking back at her was sincere interest. â€œSo, whatâ€™s your favorite class?â€

She smiled as her entire body instantly relaxed. â€œMath.â€

â€œMath?â€ he asked in surprise.

â€œYeah. Why? Is that so hard to believe?â€

â€œWell, no. I guess not, but I hate math.â€ He ran his fingers through his hair to push it back out of his face. â€œIâ€™m just surprised anybody likes it.â€

â€œYou hate it?â€ she asked, forgetting this was supposed to be hard. â€œBut itâ€™s so fascinating.â€

â€œFascinating? I can think of another word for it,â€ he said, wrinkling his nose.

â€œOh, yeah? Whatâ€™s that?â€

â€œTorture.â€

She laughed and shook her head. â€œNo, now youâ€™re talking about drama.â€

â€œHuh?â€ he asked, and her gaze dropped from his to her shoestrings.

With a shove she forced her gaze back up although this time it didnâ€™t lock on his. Instead it wandered around the stage and the auditorium and over to the other partners.

â€œHow can you not like drama?â€ he asked in genuine confusion. â€œDrama is awesome.â€

Her eyebrows raised as she looked back at him in open-eyed mortification. â€œNot when youâ€™re me. It isnâ€™t.â€
