Special Things
Dust Yourself Off is the debut album by Pleasure - an 8-piece that hailed from Portland, Oregon, and whose records such as the fantastic Joyous are essential items in any jazz funk collection.
The band were discovered by Wayne Henderson of the Jazz Crusaders who signed them to his At Home Productions and issued their records through Fantasy Records. Although they didn't crossover to super-stardom, their records are good examples of mid-70s Earth Wind & Fire-styled funk.
The percussive Bouncy Lady is one of the key breaks used by the pioneering DJs who created hip hop, although at the time of release the single of Midnight At The Oasis, which nearly made the charts, was its main calling card.
Other cuts such as the Earth Wind & Fire-style Reality and the pure jazz-funk of Straight Ahead are both excellent and My Love and Plastic People are showcases for the vocals of Sherman Davis.
