New Empi 9441-B electronic ignition distributor for air-cooled VW Type 1 and Type 4 engines. This distributor is a maintenance free unit that eliminates your points in favor of a hall-effect pick up which uses magnets instead of mechanical action to initiate spark in your engine. The distributor is a direct bolt on for VW Type 1 Engines and is great when paired with a set of dual carburetors. Outfit your air-cooled VW with this electronic ignition distributor today for maintenance free cruising. Installation: Remove your old distributor: We recommend first removing the cap with the wires still attached and setting them aside to transfer onto your new distributor once it is installed. Take a photo with your cell phone or make a note of where the rotor is pointing before you remove the unit. Remove the bolt holding your distributor clamp to your engine case. Remove the condenser wire running to your old distributor from the coil. Remove the old distributor from the engine by carefully lifting up and sliding it from its holder. Install new distributor: Attach the distributor clamp loosely to your new distributor. First approximately align the distributor drive key with the distributor drive in the engine block. Make sure your rotor is oriented the same way as the old distributor. Install the distributor in the engine block and fasten the distributor clamp to the engine block. Leave the clamp's collar somewhat loose on the distributor so that timing can be adjusted prior to driving the car. Connect the two electronic ignition wires to the coil. Connect the black to the negative side of the coil and the red to the positive side. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU REVERSE THIS ORDER YOU WILL BURN UP YOUR ELECTRONIC IGNITION. One by one attach the wires from the old cap to the new distributor cap. Retime your engine to factory specifications.
