The Current War: A Battle Story Between Two Electrical Titans, Thomas Edison And George Westinghouse
Before you even get to know what emotional intelligence looks like, it is important to understand what emotional intelligence is. There are various definitions of emotional intelligence (EQ or EI), like:
The ability to recognize your own emotions and those of others, for managing feelings well in our relationships, ourselves and for motivating ourselves.
It is the capacity to understand, use, identify and manage your own emotions in positive ways to empathize with others, communicate effectively, defuse conflict, relieve stress and overcome challenges.
The capacity to comprehend and recognize what others are going through emotionally.
There are two kinds of intelligence – emotional and intellectual - which also express different parts of the brain’s activity .
Intellectual Intelligence - is based on the workings of the neocortex, which is the more recently evolved layer found at the top of the brain.
Emotional Intelligence - found in the more ancient sub cortex of the brain; its centers are lower in the brain. Emotional intelligence works hand in hand with these emotional centers and the intellectual centers.
Many people tend to have a rough time connecting with the current modern society we live in and this can be with others and also ourselves. Emotional intelligence plays a key role in being able to connect with others and adapt to the society. Relationship successes, personal and professional goals all depend on our emotional intelligence (EQ) as well our intellectual intelligence (IQ).Â
