Al Martino found out the hard way that success came at a cost; having topped the chart on both sides of the Atlantic with his debut single Here In My Heart, he seemed set for a glittering career, but his success attracted the attentions of a Mafia controlled management team, who forcibly took over his contract and charged him $75,000 upfront for the privilege! Al escaped to England for a while but whilst he recorded a number of hit singles in Europe, his American career stalled. By the time he returned home in 1958, rock and roll had taken hold and there was seemingly little market for Als style of singing. He would eventually fund his own comeback, recording The Exciting Voice Of Al Martino in 1962, including an updated version of Here In My Heart, which did well enough for Capitol Records (his first major label back in 1952), which subsequently reissued the album and saw it re-establish Al as a major force.
