Bhattacharya received his talim (music instructions) from his father Pt. Rabi Bhattacharya, Pt. Dulal Roy and finally from the great Bharat Ratna Pt. Ravi Shankar. He is Rotary International's Global Ambassador for Peace & Goodwill. Ustad Sabir Khan is one of India's most renowned and accomplished tabla player. He was born into a family of tremendous family tradition in Indian music. His father, Ustad Keramatullah Khan was one of India's most prominent tabla player from the 1940s till his death in the late 70s. His grandfather, Ustaad Masit Khan is a celebrated tabla player who taught numerous lumenaries of Indian classical music. A representative of the Farukkahbad gharana (style) of tabla, Sabir's playing shows the versatility the style is known for. He is an accomplished solo artist as well as accompanist to India's top musicians. Since his youth, Sabir has accompanies such artists as Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia to name a few. Sabir is also an excellent vocalist, he specialized in ghazal and thumri and frequently composes and arranges music for various vocalists in India.
