Of all Michelangelo Falvetti's numerous compositions, only two magnificent dialoghi for five or six voices - Il diluvio universale and Nabucco - have survived intact. In these two masterful scores, Falvetti's music is characterized by a sensuality and a thoroughly Mediterranean expressivity, combined with studious respect for Baroque musical tradition. Leonardo Garcia Alarcon and Cappella Mediterranea's previous release of Il Diluvio revived interest in Falvetti, and the recording received the highest critical praise. Alarcon's Nabucco is even more rewarding, both musically and in the choice of casting.
