Description
RII Nautical Brass Navigation Divider, Straight Navigation Divider (Small) for Maritime & Naval, Antique Geometry Drafting Compass, Geometry Drafting Compass Professional Work with Leather Case
â–ºPerfect for Navigation
The divider is used to measure or transfer distances on a nautical chart, using the latitude scale. In other words, it is used to "walk off distances on the chart." Distances at sea are always measured in nautical miles. One degree of latitude is equal to 60 minutes, and one minute is equal to sixty seconds. One minute of latitude is equal of 1 nautical mile, 1852 meters or 6076.11 feet. To measure a distance, always use the latitude scale not the longitude scale. It can be used similarly with road or geographical maps.
â–ºDivider for Geometry
When you want to measure the distance of a side of a geometric shape against a scale, the divider is a valuable tool. In fact it is superior to rulers, which tend to slide around. A divider will give you an exact point to point distance that can be evaluated against a scale. It is also ideal for checking that all sides in regular polygons are indeed regular.
â–ºDivider for Engineering and Architectural Drawings
When an engineer or architect is drafting a construction plan or creating to-scale renderings, the divider is a very useful tool. Likewise, the construction foreman, plumber or electrician who needs to know distances between devices or features will find the divider a handy tool.
â–ºBeautiful Brass Construction
The beautiful appearance of this divider is such that a fair number of them end up in displays or on mantels because of their inherent aesthetic. There is something about polished brass that catches the eye and gives an air of quality and craftsmanship.
â–ºDivider for artists
When you are drawing on a one-to-one scale, the divider is a must. To draw accurately, the divider can be used to check the width of the mouth or the distance between the eyes or from ear to mouth, etc., thus guaranteeing pleasing proportions.
