Hi. My name is Dale Darling. Iâ€™ve been fly fishing since the late â€˜70â€™s. Learning about trout streams, fish, insects, flies, techniques that work, and putting it all together is a relentless delight. During the years, Iâ€™ve fished lots of trout water, tied thousands of flies and read numerous books.
My Solution Books, originally created to answer questions asked by customers who frequented my fly shops, are designed to clearly explain fly fishing topics in a way that will help others avoid many of the pitfalls I experienced. Each book is the result experience on the water and at the tying vise, and of years of teaching. The content is pared down to address ongoing challenges.
Fish! Bugs! Flies! focuses on trout that live in streams, the insects they eat, and fly imitations that fool them.
Anglers who fish with flies on trout streams become trout centric. Where do trout live? How do they survive? What do we need to know about these wary fish in order to fool them with flies? These are a few of the questions weâ€™ll begin to answer in Fish!
Since most stream trout feed primarily on aquatic insects, the Bugs! part of this Solution Book introduces the basics of aquatic insect entomology. What we began in the Getting Started Solution Book is expanded. Weâ€™ll follow the year long life cycle of one particular mayfly; anglers call it the pale morning dun.
But we canâ€™t glue natural insects to hooks and cast them to hungry trout; therefore, we tie and buy flies designed to imitate food organisms trout eat. In Flies! weâ€™ll talk about their design, types and other important characteristics.
Fish! Bugs! Flies! has various useful charts, descriptive pictures and an appendix that follows the body of the book.
