About the Book

Russia (Russian Federation) was founded in 1991 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. It is the largest country in the world and spans eleven time zones. Most of Russia consists of vast steppes and large tracts of forested areas in the north and tundra on the northern coastline. There are thousands of rivers and lakes in Russia with large areas covered by swamp. Lake Baikal is the largest Russian lake and deepest lake in the world. Russia has vast natural resources, primarily oil and gas.
