Fournier 1-40 Spanish Playing Cards (Red)
Deck of 40 Spanish Playing Cards. Card numbers are from 1 to 7, 10-Sota (Jack-Knave), 11-Caballo (Horse-Knight) and 12-Rey (King). The four suits in Spanish Cards are Oro (Gold), Copa (Cups), Espada (Swords) and Basto (Clubs). The Castilian pattern is the most widespread pattern in Spain. It was designed and published by Heraclio Fournier in 1889 and by the early 20th century had displaced the older patterns in Spain. Despite being called Castilian, the cards were first produced in Fournier's headquarters in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country. Fournier made some noticeable innovations to Spanish cards such as giving the kings beards, adding faces to the coins, dagger-like swords, and red cups. Figures wear fantastic pseudo-medieval costumes. Naipes Heraclio Fournier, S.A. was founded in 1870. Since then, and after several prizes at Universal Exhibitions, we have become the worldwide reference in playing cards. We continue being the manufacturers of that deck of playing cards you have at home. Each detail was created by artist and experts in printing methods. Even nowadays it continues being like that.
