Straight out of the squats of NYC, Star Fucking Hipsters are a veritable who s who of the punk/ska/crust scene. Originally the brainchild of Leftover Crack and Choking Victim vocalist Scott Sturgeon (aka Stza, Strg, Stza Crack, Sturgeon F. Hipster... the list goes on), Star Fucking hipsters has evolved into a super group of sorts , and the quintessential band of the genre. The recording of their 3rd full-length From the Dumpster To the Grave saw the existing line-up (including members of LOC, Ensign, and World Inferno Friendship Society) expanded with addition of Mikey erg (The Ergs!) on drums and Kelsey (Chump Change) on co-lead vocals. Even further, From the Dumpster To the Grave features folk/punk band Blackbird Raum and Boots Riley of political hip hop group The Coup. Considering all that talent on hand, coupled with Strg s proven song writing abilities, it s no surprise that the album is a masterpiece. The 12 tracks expectedly span several genres including punk, ska, hip hop, metal and folk, all wrapped in a hardcore shell. Intertwined male and female vocals harmonize and shriek over some of the crunchiest guitars ever recorded, culminating in massive crescendos of explosive sound. Despite the varied influences and aggressive force behind them, the songs maintain a concise and direct sound that all share infectious melodies. The lyrical content of the album seethes over sociopolitical injustices in the arenas of war, religion, bigotry and, of course, police brutality. As the leaders of the punk/ska/crust genre, Star Fucking Hipsters (and all of Strg s bands, for that matter) generate a certain level of expectation. From the Dumpster To the Grave absolutely decimates those expectations and surpasses them by delivering the Hipsters best material to date.
