George Benjamin was named one of England's leading composers in 1980 when he became the youngest composer to have one of his works, 'Ringed by the Flat Horizon,' played at a BBC Proms concert. 'At First Light' has become a repertory piece around the world. Benjamin has taught at the Royal College of Music and is now professor of composition at King's College, London.
Formed in 1980, Ensemble Modern is one of the world's leading ensembles for new music. In 1998 the Ensemble Modern Orchestra became the first orchestra in the world devoted exclusively to the performance of 20th and 21st-century music.
