One of the few still listenable singers from the 20's, Hanshaw has a highly appealing and swinging style which put her in the same category as Ethel Waters in that decade. Some excellent jazz singing with excellent jazz musicians backing her (The Dorsey Brothers, Manny Klein, Joe Venuti and Bunny Berigan). Annette had an extremely plaintive voice but she was certainly not a sugary sweet singer. This CD also has a few songs in which she does an uncanny Helen Kane impersonation.
