Philip Glass's Music With Changing Parts is one of the key works of early minimalism, along with Terry Riley s In C and Steve Reich's Drumming. The work's style is unique among Glass's ouvre. Composed in an open score format, performers are allowed a degree of lattitude and the opportunity to improvise (although those improvisations are carefully controlled by the composer). This new recording featuring the the Salt Lake Electric Ensemble offers a fresh new look at Glass's 1970 masterpiece, combining both live performers and - for the first time - electronically processed sounds.
