Glass s first violin concerto from 1987 is the composer s most well known concert work having been performed and recorded by violinists like Gidon Kremer and Robert McDuffie. Now thirty years after its composition it has become known as a new classic of our time. The same can be said for Bernstein's luscious Serenade (after Plato's Symposium) for solo violin, strings, harp and percussion from 1954. A concerto in all but name, it has become one of Bernstein's best known and most loved works for the concert hall.
